LRAD® Deployed for Mass Communication and Search and Rescue Operations in Aftermath of Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami

SAN DIEGO, CA, June 3, 2011 - LRAD Corporation (NASDAQ: LRAD), the world's leading provider of acoustic hailing devices (AHDs), learned this week that LRAD systems were deployed to assist in mass communication and search and rescue operations in the aftermath of the recent natural disaster in Japan. LRAD 100X™ and 500X™ systems were used to communicate to survivors in areas devastated by the March 11th earthquake and tsunami. LRAD systems were also used to coordinate search and rescue operations.

“When natural disasters strike, LRAD systems have proven highly effective in emergency communication situations," commented Tom Brown, president and CEO of LRAD Corporation. “From Hurricane Katrina to last year's devastating earthquake in Haiti to the recent catastrophe in Japan, LRAD has provided disaster relief officials with the means to broadcast instructions and information over large distances to survivors in areas where accessibility is limited and power and communications have been disrupted."

The Company's proprietary Long Range Acoustic Device® systems broadcast powerful multi-language hails and instructions enabling emergency responders to clearly communicate over distance. Utilizing advanced sound reproduction technologies and innovative acoustic materials, LRAD is vastly superior in loudness, intelligibility and broadcast distance to bullhorns and other portable mass notification systems. While most bullhorns are vaguely intelligible up to approximately 20 meters, LRAD provides highly intelligible voice broadcasts at ranges up to 3,000 meters.
